Terms and Conditions for Hackney Removals

Removal team loading household items into a vanThese Terms and Conditions set out the basis on which Hackney Removals provides moving, loading, transport, and associated services to residential and commercial customers in the UK. By making a booking, requesting a quote, or allowing our team to commence work, you agree to be bound by these terms. These provisions are intended to be fair, transparent, and consistent with UK consumer and transport standards. They apply to all removal services, including standard house moves, office relocations, furniture transport, packing support, and any additional services agreed in writing before the job begins.

1. Service Scope

We provide removal services based on the details supplied by the customer at the time of enquiry and confirmed during booking. The scope of work may include dismantling and reassembly of furniture, protective wrapping, carrying items between properties, and transportation by our vehicle fleet. Unless expressly agreed, our Hackney removal service does not include specialist handling of hazardous substances, live animals, perishable goods, or items requiring regulated transport conditions. Customers are responsible for making sure the information they provide is complete, accurate, and up to date. If the actual move differs materially from the information provided, we may revise the price, the schedule, or both.

All services are subject to reasonable access, safe working conditions, and adequate time being allowed for completion. Our team may refuse to move any item that could be unsafe, illegal, or likely to cause damage to other property or to the vehicle. We reserve the right to determine the safest method of loading and unloading, provided that it is reasonably consistent with the service booked. Where the customer requests a specific handling method, we will consider it in good faith, but the final decision on safety remains with the removal crew.

Customer confirming a removals booking and scheduleBookings are made when we have issued a quote or estimate and the customer has confirmed acceptance. A booking is not final until we provide written or recorded confirmation that includes the date, time window, service scope, and any agreed extras. For larger or more complex moves, we may request photographs, inventories, or additional details before confirming the booking. The Hackney removals company may also require a deposit to secure the date, especially during busy periods or where third-party arrangements are needed.

2. Booking Process

Customers must ensure that the booking information is accurate, including property access, parking restrictions, floor levels, lift availability, and any items that require special attention. If the move involves a delay, rescheduling, or a change in the volume of goods, we may adjust the price and timing accordingly. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate changes, but changes are subject to availability. If our crew arrives and the service cannot proceed because the details supplied were incomplete or incorrect, the booking may still be charged in full or in part depending on the time and costs already incurred.

Any written estimate is based on the information available when it is provided. Unless stated otherwise, estimates are not fixed-price contracts and may change where the actual conditions differ from those described. The customer should not assume that packing materials, waiting time, additional labour, or multiple collection points are included unless this has been specifically confirmed. A Hackney removals service booking may also be subject to minimum charges, weekend surcharges, or congestion-related costs if these are advised in advance.

Invoice and payment details for a moving serviceAll prices are quoted in pounds sterling and may be stated inclusive or exclusive of VAT depending on the structure of the booking and the service required. Payment terms will be confirmed before the move, and the customer agrees to pay all sums due within the period stated on the invoice or at the completion of the service if payment on completion has been agreed. We may accept bank transfer, debit or credit card, or another method agreed in writing. Cash payments, where accepted, must be made in full and without deduction.

3. Payments

If a deposit is required, it is used to reserve the date and form part of the total price. Deposits are normally non-refundable unless we cancel the booking or state otherwise in writing. Where the move takes longer than expected due to customer-related delays, extra items, difficult access, or changes in instructions, additional charges may apply at the rates previously advised or, if no rate has been advised, at a reasonable market rate. The customer must pay for any parking charges, tolls, congestion charges, storage costs, or access fees that were not included in the original quotation.

In the event of late payment, we reserve the right to charge reasonable interest and recovery costs to the extent permitted by law. Title to goods carried does not transfer to us, and all items remain the customer’s property at all times. However, where lawful, we may retain goods or refuse further work until outstanding amounts are settled. Any dispute about an invoice must be raised promptly and in writing, with clear reasons and supporting evidence where available. Payment disputes do not automatically cancel the obligation to pay any undisputed amount.

4. Cancellations and Rescheduling

Customers may cancel or reschedule a booking by giving notice in writing. The amount of notice required may depend on the size of the job, the vehicles allocated, and whether specialist planning has been undertaken. For smaller jobs, reasonable notice is expected; for larger removals, more notice may be required. If a cancellation is made after work has been booked in and resources have been reserved, cancellation charges may apply to cover planning time, staffing, and administration. Where the team has already travelled to site, a call-out fee and any time spent may also be charged.

We may cancel or postpone a service if there are circumstances beyond our control, including severe weather, vehicle breakdown, staff illness, road closures, or any event that makes performance unsafe or impractical. If we cancel for reasons within our control, we will offer a new date or refund any amount already paid for the cancelled portion, unless work has already been completed. Our Hackney removals business aims to be flexible, but we are not responsible for losses caused by unavoidable operational disruption, provided we act reasonably and in accordance with these terms.

If a customer is not ready at the agreed time, or if access is unavailable, we may treat the booking as delayed, partially completed, or cancelled depending on the circumstances. Waiting time may be charged. If the customer fails to attend, fails to provide access, or asks us to leave the site before completion without lawful reason, any deposit may be retained and further reasonable charges may apply. Rebooking is subject to availability and may require an updated quotation.

5. Customer Responsibilities

The customer must ensure that all goods are properly packed unless packing has been included in the service. Items should be labelled where necessary, and fragile goods should be packed in suitable containers. The customer must remove or secure valuables, documents, cash, jewellery, keys, and personally sensitive items before the move begins. We do not accept responsibility for items that the customer leaves unsecured in drawers, cabinets, or open containers unless we have expressly agreed to pack and inventory those items.

The customer must also arrange parking, permits, and access arrangements unless we have agreed to manage them. If our team is required to carry items over a longer distance than reasonably expected, use stairs due to lift failure, or wait because access is restricted, additional time charges may apply. The customer is responsible for ensuring that the property is safe for lifting and moving, including the condition of floors, lighting, and any concealed hazards. A Hackney relocation service depends on co-operation from the customer to proceed efficiently and safely.

The customer warrants that they have the legal right to move the goods in question and that the goods are not stolen, prohibited, or subject to third-party claims. If any item is subject to finance, retention of title, or a legal dispute, the customer should disclose this before booking. We may refuse to transport any item where ownership is unclear or where transporting it could expose us to legal risk. Customers should also check that any dismantling or reassembly requested does not invalidate warranties or service conditions on their furniture or appliances.

6. Liability and Insurance

We will exercise reasonable care and skill in performing the service. Our liability for loss or damage is limited to direct loss and does not extend to indirect, consequential, or purely economic loss, except where such exclusion is not permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where applicable, we maintain appropriate insurance for transport and public liability risks, but insurance does not remove the customer’s duty to pack and prepare items properly.

If damage is alleged, the customer must notify us as soon as reasonably possible and no later than within a reasonable period after completion, providing photographs and details of the affected item. We may inspect the item, request proof of value, and consider whether the damage was caused by our handling, pre-existing condition, poor packing, or the nature of the item itself. Normal wear and tear, pre-existing marks, loose fittings, fragile contents, and items not packed by us are excluded to the extent permitted by law. A Hackney removal company is not liable for damage caused by hidden defects or inadequate access conditions outside our control.

Where liability is established, our maximum liability shall, unless otherwise required by law, be limited to the lower of the repair cost, replacement cost, or the amount paid for the relevant item or service, subject to any policy limits and the evidence provided. Customers should take out their own insurance where they consider the value or risk to be significant. We are not responsible for delays, losses, or damage caused by third parties, including building managers, parking authorities, landlords, or other contractors, unless we have expressly accepted responsibility in writing.

7. Waste Regulations and Disposal

Waste handling and disposal compliance during a moveAny waste removal, clearance, or disposal service provided by us will be carried out in accordance with applicable UK waste laws, including duties relating to lawful transfer, storage, and disposal. We will only transport waste where it has been agreed in advance and where we are satisfied that the material can be handled lawfully. Customers must not place hazardous materials, electrical waste requiring special handling, chemicals, asbestos, paint, oils, gas cylinders, or other restricted items into general waste loads unless we have expressly agreed and the law permits such transport. Where necessary, we may decline to remove items that present a legal or safety risk.

When collecting waste, we may require a description of the materials and the customer may be asked to confirm that they have the right to dispose of them. If a waste transfer note, record, or declaration is required by law, the customer agrees to co-operate and provide accurate information. We reserve the right to segregate items, direct certain materials to suitable facilities, and refuse any load that appears contaminated, mixed with prohibited items, or inconsistent with the agreed description. The Hackney removals service does not authorise unlawful fly-tipping, and customers remain responsible for ensuring that goods they ask us to dispose of are lawful to collect.

Where items are removed for disposal rather than relocation, ownership is treated as transferred to us only to the extent necessary for lawful handling, processing, or disposal, and only once the waste collection has been accepted. Customers should understand that some materials may be subject to separate charges because of disposal fees, specialist handling, or recycling requirements. If a customer misdescribes waste or includes prohibited items, they may be responsible for any resulting fines, enforcement action, or additional costs, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

8. Delays, Storage, and Access Issues

We will use reasonable efforts to complete the service within the agreed time frame, but times are estimates unless expressly stated as guaranteed. Delays may arise because of traffic, weather, building access problems, lift restrictions, waiting for keys, or issues caused by other parties. Where a delay is not our fault, we may charge for additional labour or waiting time. If goods must be held temporarily because delivery cannot be completed, any storage arrangement must be agreed separately and may be subject to additional charges, terms, and insurance requirements.

Should access be impossible or unsafe at the destination, we may unload in the nearest reasonable safe location or return items to storage or the origin address if this can be done lawfully and practically. Any extra transport, labour, or storage costs caused by access problems may be charged to the customer. We are not liable for losses resulting from access restrictions that were not disclosed or that were materially different from the information provided at booking. Our responsibility is limited to taking reasonable steps in the circumstances.

Where we store items temporarily by agreement, the customer remains responsible for prohibited contents, fragile items, and accurate item descriptions. Any storage period, storage charges, and collection arrangements will be confirmed separately. We may require full payment before release of stored goods. If goods remain uncollected beyond the agreed period, we may charge continuing storage fees and, after giving reasonable notice, take lawful steps to recover our costs or deal with the goods in accordance with applicable law.

9. Complaints and Claims

We aim to provide a professional Hackney removals company service, and if a customer is dissatisfied, they should raise the issue as soon as possible so we can review the matter promptly. A complaint should include the date of the move, a description of the issue, relevant photographs, and any supporting documents. We will investigate complaints in a fair and reasonable manner and may request further information before responding. Complaints should be made in good faith and with a genuine attempt to resolve the matter constructively.

Any claim for damage or loss must be supported by reasonable evidence and must be made within a reasonable time after the event. If we need to inspect goods, packaging, or the site, the customer should preserve the relevant evidence where possible. We may offer repair, replacement, partial refund, or another appropriate remedy depending on the circumstances. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law where those rights apply.

We may decline claims that are unsupported, made outside a reasonable time, or relate to matters outside our control. Claims relating to goods packed by the customer will be considered with particular care, as will claims involving pre-existing damage, inherent defects, or items of sentimental rather than measurable financial value. The customer acknowledges that some losses cannot be valued precisely and agrees that any settlement will be based on fair and reasonable evidence.

Legal terms for a UK removal company serviceThese Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction unless another forum is required by applicable law. If any provision is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force. No waiver of any breach shall be treated as a waiver of any later breach. Any variation to these terms must be agreed in writing by an authorised representative of Hackney Removals.

10. Governing Law

These terms are intended to reflect common UK removal industry practice while protecting both the customer and the service provider. They may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in law, operational requirements, or business processes. The version in force at the time of booking will normally apply to that booking unless a later change is expressly agreed. By proceeding with a booking, the customer confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted these conditions in full.

Final Provisions

Hackney Removals may subcontract part of the service where necessary, provided that any subcontractor acts under suitable instructions and standards. The customer may not assign or transfer their rights under the booking without our prior written consent. Our failure to enforce any right shall not prevent us from enforcing it later. These terms form the entire agreement between the parties in relation to the booked service and replace any prior discussions, representations, or informal understandings, except where expressly preserved in writing.
